Commonwealth Games 2018 – Indian Women Hockey Team Go Down Fighting 0-1 Against Australia in the Semi-Final

Heartbreak news for Indian Hockey lovers. Women Hockey team lost 0-1 against Australia in semi-final. The Indian team had chances to convert match in favour but they failed. After this result, Australia will go into the final match against New Zealand while India would face England in the bronze medal match on Saturday.

In the first half Indian queens fended off the Australian attacks but in the second half they go down and it was heartbreaking for the Indian crowd. Grace Stewart received a high ball inside the D and hit it straight. Indian team retaliated but Australian team was too strong.

India’s coach Harendra Singh recalled goalkeeper Savita Punia when only four minutes were left in the match but the players could not cash in on the chances that came their way.

Navneet missed out a sitter from a Monika-cross from the right flank while Rani could not slam in a through pass from Vandana Kataria.

In the fourth quarter, India earned back-to-back penalty corners but squandered both as the opportunity to score an equaliser went a begging. They got another  penalty corners but could not utilise that also.
