Making a hat-trick of wins Ranchi Rays once again proved that they are still champions. The defending cha, pions Ranchi Rays defeated Kalinga Lancers by 3-2 score in a round robin match of the fourth Hockey India League, on Thursday.
As per the new goal scoring system every goal and penalty stroke is counted as two. After a very tough match tied at 0-0 in first two quarters Malak Singh from Kalinga lancers made a goal in the third quarter to give their team a lead of 2-0.

However, even after the end of the third quarter, the visitors still lead 2-1, thanks to some superb save by Andrew Charter. Deavin who turned the match on its head in the 48th minute slot in the on the rebound to make it 3-2.
Kalinga Lancers battled hard but failed to make any resulting attempt in the last minutes. Overall the match was really enjoyable. The crowd in the stadium was filled upto the neck which was due to the step taken by hockey India League to promote hockey amongst the people by making tickets available in free.
With their 3rd win the Ranchi Rays have jumped on the top, they will be facing Jaypee Punjab Warriors in the next match on Saturday while Kalinga Lancers will have to face Dabang Mumbai on Sunday in Mumbai.

The post Ranchi Rays Defeated Kalinga Lancers 3-2 in Thrilling HIL Tie first appeared on The History Book of Indian Hockey.

The defending champions of the Hockey India League, Ranchi Rays will be hopeful of putting a similar show at the 4th edition of the Coal India Hockey India League.
The six-team annual franchise based hockey league, the flagship event of Hockey India – the apex body governing the sport in the country and sanctioned by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) is scheduled to be played across six venues in India from 18th January – 21st February 2016.
The Ranchi Rays will play their first match against last year runner’s up Jaypee Punjab Warriors in a rematch of the finals which will test their mantle once again. The Ranchi Rays have tried to maintain the combinations that worked out beautifully for them in the last edition.

Ranchi Rays’ Birendra Lakra – India Hockey

The other major retention for the team has been in the form of Captain Ashley Jackson who has been retained in the team for a sum of $95,000. Skipper Jackson led his team from the front and scored 12 goals to help the Rays clinch the 2015 HIL title. Out of the 12 goals, 11 came from penalty corner conversions, leading him to become the top-scorer of 2015 and also the Player of the Tournament.
The team has a combination of Australians, who can play different roles at the same time like midfielder/forward Flynn Ogilvie, 23-year-old Daniel Beale and 25-year-old Trent Mitton who can play a similar role. Timothy Deavin will add the necessary experience in the form of defender/midfielder. The goal will be guarded by Australian Tyler Lovell who will look to continue the habit of not giving away easy goals to the opponents for Ranchi Rays.
Ranchi Rays who have believed in retaining more players than buying new ones with a total spent of $656,500, has Indian talent in the form of Manpreet Singh, the young Indian midfielder who will be looking to make immense of the opportunity of playing alongside Ashley Jackson.

The post Ranchi Rays Fully Prepared with new team for Coal India Hockey India League 2016 first appeared on The History Book of Indian Hockey.

Two time Hockey India League winner team Ranchi Rays have pulled up their socks for upcoming Hockey India League 2016.The team is going to start their practice with their training camp in Delhi starting from January 10.The training is kept in Delhi to avoid the headache of traveling from their hometown Ranchi to Delhi on the evening of their event.

<align= "center"> Ranchi Rays in Action

The Ranchi Rays Coach Harendra Singh said “Having a camp in New Delhi suits us as we can avoid unnecessary traveling fatigue. If we had a camp in Ranchi, we would have had to come to New Delhi and then proceed to Lucknow for our first game on January 19. With fog an issue during January (it often results in delays) it makes sense for us to have our camp in New Delhi”.
Harendra has full confidence that their team will give their best to win the championship. All of the foreigner players are expected to join the camp by January 13 and the training camp will run till January 17 and the team will proceed for Lucknow on next day.

The post Ranchi Rays Preparing for Hockey India League 2016 first appeared on The History Book of Indian Hockey.
